Jackets have been together, in some form or another, since 2012.
Their first album, “Neighbours,” a short and scrappy love letter to the music that inspired them, was written, recorded, and released in the summer of that year. Most of the songs were written by the whole band, built from ideas worked out at nightly rehearsals in a garage.
Playing around southern Ontario, the band developed a reputation for their loud, energetic live shows that blend the tunefulness of vintage pop with the jam-band spirit of the Dead.
In 2014, Jackets released their sophomore album, “Endless Endless.” The songs are weightier and more developed, with more riffs and more hooks, a result of the band spending two years touring and tinkering with them. In a turn from the more collaborative writing process of “Neighbours,” the majority of the tracks on “Endless Endless” were written by the band’s three principle songwriters (Mackenzie Jordan, Mike Vukovich, Sandy Martin, respectively) in isolation. Working at Locust Ridge studios, they decided to take their time recording to explore the sonic possibilities available to them. The finished product is an album that reflects the distinct personalities of each songwriter on a song-by-song basis while functioning as a whole, cohesive album.
You can catch them live around Toronto and elsewhere as they prepare to release their third album, “(Jackets).”
